What is DSIP?

Delta sleep-inducing peptide (DSIP) is a small peptide investigated in human sleep research primarily in older, small studies.

Proposed mechanism

Its precise physiological role remains uncertain. Historical work explored sleep architecture and hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal signalling.

What has been published?

Small double-blind and controlled human studies from the 1980s and early 1990s examined sleep and neuroendocrine effects.

Current human evidence

Results are inconsistent. A double-blind study in 16 chronic insomnia patients found some objective sleep measures favored DSIP, but investigators concluded short-term treatment was unlikely to have major therapeutic benefit.

Regulatory status
