What is GHK-Cu?
GHK-Cu is the copper complex of glycyl-L-histidyl-L-lysine, a naturally occurring tripeptide found in human plasma and other tissues. It has long been studied for extracellular-matrix signalling, wound biology and skin-related applications.
Proposed mechanism
Preclinical work links GHK-Cu with collagen and glycosaminoglycan synthesis, extracellular-matrix remodelling, antioxidant activity, inflammatory signalling and angiogenesis. These pathways are biologically plausible, but results depend strongly on formulation and delivery.
What has been published?
Recent reviews describe extensive cell and animal data and a much smaller clinical literature. A 2026 systematic review in aesthetic medicine identified only a limited number of randomized clinical studies despite broad preclinical interest.
Current human evidence
Human evidence is strongest for topical or aesthetic contexts, where small studies suggest possible improvements in wrinkle-related outcomes and post-procedure recovery. Evidence for injectable systemic use is not established.
Regulatory status
GHK-Cu is used in cosmetic research and products, but that does not make injectable GHK-Cu an approved drug treatment. Claims should be separated by formulation and route.
