What is Kisspeptin?

Kisspeptin is an endogenous peptide that activates the KISS1 receptor and is a key upstream regulator of reproductive hormone signalling. Unlike many internet research peptides, its physiology is well established and it is being studied in structured reproductive and psychosexual clinical research.

Proposed mechanism

Kisspeptin activates hypothalamic GnRH neurons, which drives pituitary luteinizing hormone and follicle-stimulating hormone release and downstream reproductive function.

What has been published?

Randomized human studies have examined reproductive hormone responses, oocyte maturation, psychosexual function and newer non-invasive delivery approaches. Kisspeptin-receptor agonists are also in clinical development.

Current human evidence

Controlled studies demonstrate robust reproductive-hormone activity. A 2025 randomized crossover study in 95 adults found a biologically active kisspeptin-54 infusion increased LH without significantly altering anxiety measures. Clinical studies in assisted reproduction have also reported effects on oocyte maturation.

Regulatory status

Native kisspeptin and investigational kisspeptin agonists should not be represented as broadly FDA-approved fertility or sexual-health treatments. Clinical development is active.
